How can I search for a course by subject?

You can use the Course Catalog to locate courses.

Return to the Course Catalog and in the Search for a course subject field, enter the first letter or letters of the subject to refine the list. After you select a subject, you can then select an item from the list to view the course search details.

How can I use a wildcard with the Keyword Search?

The Keyword Search supports single and multiple character wildcard searches.

To perform a multiple character wildcard search, use the "*" symbol. Multiple character wildcard searches looks for 0 or more characters. For example:

To perform a single character wildcard search, use the "?" symbol. The single character wildcard search looks for items that match with the single character replaced. For example:

Note: You cannot use a * or ? symbol as the first character of a search.

How can I filter the results of a search for courses that are available to add to my course plan?

You can filter search results to view course and section information by using the filters in the Filter Results.

How can I view course details and available sections?

Select a course from the search results to expand and review the course details. You can also expand and review the available sections, if applicable.

In what order are my search results displayed?

If you use the "Subject Search" tab in the Course Catalog, courses are sorted in alphanumeric order by course code. First-year courses are located at the top of the list, followed by second-year courses, and so on, unless additional filters are applied using the filters on the left-hand side of your screen.

If you use the "Search for courses" box at the top right-hand side of your screen, courses are displayed based on relevance to your search terms. Courses are not listed according to course code or year. If you only want to view courses for a specific year, use the filters on the left-hand side of your screen.

How can I view a table listing of sections?

In the advanced search tab, you will see a Results View option. Click the Section Listing option to return a table view of sections instead of the full course catalog results. You can add a section directly to your schedule from the Section Listing view.

Why is course section information (e.g., seat availability, meeting information, etc.) different when selecting Section Listing in the Advanced Search compared to Catalog Listing?

Information on the Section Listing page is only updated once a day (overnight), so you will not see changes until the next day. Use the Basic Search or the Catalog Listing view in the Advanced Search to view the most up-to-date course section information.

I’m interested in taking a certain course through Distance Education (DE), and the course description indicates that the course is offered in a DE format. The course offerings for the semester are now posted, and the course is only being offered through face-to-face delivery. Why isn’t it being offered in a DE format as indicated in the course description?

Information in the course description about when and how a course is offered should only be used as a guide. If the “Offering(s)” section of the course description indicates “Also offered through Distance Education format,” this may not apply to all semesters, and the course may only be available through face-to-face delivery in some semesters. If you would like to know more about when the course is usually offered through DE, please contact the department that organizes the course. The department is indicated in the course description.

How do I add a course or section to my course plan?

You must log in if you want to add a course or section to your plan.
